Quogue

Quogue

Situated between Westhampton and East Quogue, the Village of Quogue was founded in 1659 and became a popular resort community for the wealthy in the 1890s and early 1900s. In 1928 the Village was incorporated and has since then controlled its own destiny. Today Quogue prides itself on not being part of the Hamptons scene, instead focusing on community and family-oriented activities. Gracious classic shingle-style historic homes in the village Historic District date from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Quogue's small downtown has several shops and places to eat, a village green with a pond and gazebo. The pace of life here is quieter and more measured than in other parts of the Hamptons.

The hundred-year-old Quogue Association sponsors community activities including beautification projects, speakers, holiday celebrations and financial support for community organizations. The Quogue Historical Society maintains historical photographs and documents, collections of artifacts, and the first Quogue Schoolhouse, now operated as a museum. The Quogue School is highly regarded for its small class sizes and the quality of education it provides. The Hampton Theatre Company presents performances from September to June each year and The Quogue Junior Theater Troupe presents two fully scaled musicals in summer.

Recreational activities are important parts of life in Quogue. The Village beach is open only to residents. The Quogue Field Club is an exclusive members club which includes a private 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, and clubhouse with dining and event space. Outside of town, the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, a 300-acre nonprofit nature preserve, has miles of trails through diverse habitats, and a nature center with a museum, library and gift shop. The refuge is also home to wildlife, some of which are permanently injured and cared for here, housed in an Outdoor Wildlife Complex. The Refuge is open every day of the year, the trails from sunrise to sunset.

QUOGUE BEACH INFORMATION

“One of my favorite things about Quogue is seeing a trail of grandparents, their children and their grandchildren riding their bikes, duckling-like, down the lush and private-hedged streets of the Village. Quogue is a multi-generational and charming enclave that stands out from the rest of the Hamptons for its laid back, small town vibe. From its newly designated Historic District to its critically acclaimed Community Theater and revered Village beach, Quogue appeals to celebrities, Wall Street execs and anyone who values privacy.” -- Aimee Fitzpatrick Martin
